Scattered Sites
5 homes on separate lots
in Eastsound and Olga

Madrona StreetIn 2001 OPAL acquired and renovated two existing single-family homes—one in Olga and one in Eastsound. A third Eastsound house joined the program in 2002.

Then, in 2004, a supporter donated a vacant lot on Madrona Street in Eastsound where OPAL constructed two new homes, based on designs created by Ross Chapin, an architect from Whidbey Island.

Future Possibilities:

OPAL continues to seek donations of land and grant funds that will enable the acquisition of other lots and existing single-family homes for resale under the community land trust model.

OPAL housing helps allow room for all people—all economic categories—on the island. It appeals to my sense of social justice, helping us to realize the great diversity of who we are as humans.
