Scattered Sites: 6 homes on separate lots in Eastsound, Olga and Obstruction Pass

Madrona StreetIn 2001 OPAL acquired and renovated two existing single-family homes—one in Olga and one in Eastsound. A third Eastsound house joined the program in 2002.

Then, in 2004, a supporter donated a vacant lot on Madrona Street in Eastsound where OPAL constructed two new homes, based on designs created by Ross Chapin, an architect from Whidbey Island.

In 2008 a supporter sold to OPAL a 10-year old home at a bargain price. OPAL made modest repairs to the home and sold it to a qualified moderate-income purchaser with a 99-year leasehold interest in the land.

Future Possibilities:

If you have a piece of land or a home you’d like to donate, please contact OPAL’s Executive Director, Lisa Byers (link to email).

OPAL housing helps allow room for all people—all economic categories—on the island. It appeals to my sense of social justice, helping us to realize the great diversity of who we are as humans.” —Rev. Craig West, formerly of Emmanuel Episcopal Church
