OPAL’s third neighborhood was completed in 2002. Five homes are clustered on one and a half acres of a three-acre parcel. A second phase of six homes will be constructed on the remaining land in the future. Use of factory-built homes proved to be a more cost-effective approach to building construction. Homes range in size from 912 to 1,578 sq. ft. Mortgages range from $60,000 to $130,000. Monthly payments range from $325 to $800.
Nowhere else has satisfied my need for community as well as Orcas Island. Owning a home plants me here in a more permanent way than ever before. It is a very nice house, it’s all mine—and I can afford it.
—Carol Bee, postal worker, editor, actress, and Oberon Wood homeowner
